May 2022 I lost my job

May 2022 I lost my job.

I was working for an exciting start up in the city called Gopuff that delivered groceries to your door in 20 minutes. It had billions of dollars of backing from venture capitalists and was flying over in the US too. The prospects were very high for the start-up and my position within it.

However, the demand was based on heavy discounting and aggressive marketing. Without this, there was no demand simply because customers weren’t willing to pay the premium for a quick 20 minute delivery. Once the Ukraine war started, the investors got the jitters and wanted their money back to invest in less risky ventures. The culture and business direction changed overnight and suddenly the demands were no longer hyper growth, but to turn an operating profit. This led to mass redundancies, including myself. I never thought I'd be in this position this early in my career. I always thought I had the confidence to be able to rise up and outperform my way out of a redundancy. Clearly not and it hit my professional confidence hard.

When one finds oneself in a crisis, one has the opportunity to emerge stronger and with renewed determination. This is what happened to me and the redundancy happens to be the best thing that has happened to me. I am now following a life long dream to run my own business and I am going to become an insect farmer 🪳

So here starts my blog and my business - Fly2Feed. I hope with my future rambling on this blog I can share some of the many mistakes I will make on my journey as an insect farmer for the community I build will be able to learn from it. I plan for a few successes too, so it’s a good opportunity to share and celebrate.

The start of my journey begins with the set-up of my site, so these pictures are what my new office looks like. And for those suckers on a packed out tube every morning, it's only a 1 minute commute to work 😉
